Team Inception December 2015
It all began with an idea that Laurence had...and a trip to the headmaster's office.
Aflex Hose and Centurion Racing share a common goal of wanting to inspire the next generation of engineers in the local area. Both parties worked together on a Primary School STEM Challenge, with activities centred around designing and racing a car down the F1 in Schools test track. Teams of junior school children, from a number of local schools, added components to a basic car, decorated the car and named and created an image for their team. The cars were then raced and prizes awarded for the fastest car, best designed car, best team identity and fastest reaction time.
Aflex hose provided funding for the 3D printed components used as the base car design and representatives from Aflex Hose participate in the events.
The program is a success and will be continuing into the future.
The F1 in Schools Technology Challenge is a multi-disciplinary challenge open to all secondary schools, sixth form colleges, colleges of further education and other organised youth groups. Teams of 3-6 students aged 11 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered high density foam F1 cars. Teams of 3 – 6 students are judged on car speed, as well as supporting evidence of their design, verbal presentation and marketing display stand in ‘‘the pits”.
